We love celebrating the work of creatives all around the world! As part of our Artists Around The World series, we wanted to chat to local Margate-based artist and good friend to Artisans & Adventurers, Eve Lloyd-Knight. Eve is an incredibly gifted illustrator who has created work for brands and publishers all over the world, including Grazia, Tate, Boots, Coca-Cola and The New York Times, as well as illustrating the best-selling book Rebel Voices. Here's what Eve had to say about her creative process, as well as her advice for young creatives...
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you became an artist?
I have always been surrounded by creative people. Growing up in London through to living in Margate now, my friends and family have inspired me with music, food, fashion etc as well as all the illustrators and artists I’ve met along the way. I became an artist probably by accident or just organically. I don’t think there is anything else I would rather do. Other than maybe being a psychotherapist but I’m probably too emotional for that. So I don’t know how it happened to be honest!
What is the creative process like for you - how does your work come to life?
I love to problem to solve. I have lots of ideas but find it hard to decide which one to work on. So when someone comes to me with a problem it means i have a direction and one of my ideas usually gets involved or a new one is born. The way I physically make the work doesn’t matter as much. Recently I’m loving painting big murals by hand as well as detailed drawings on my iPad.
Is there a particular message that you hope to convey through your artwork?
Same as before, I like to problem solve, so it depends on what people want to say. But! I have things I won’t ever say and will always push for my work to make the viewer feel something. Even it’s just a floaty happy feeing.
What has been the proudest moment for you throughout your art career?
After my first book ‘Rebel Voices: The Global Fight for Women's Equality and the Right to Vote’ was published, I had some lovely feedback from young women. They sent me pictures and messages saying how inspired they were. I wish I had that book when I was a kid.
Do you enjoy experimenting with new work?
Yes I’m always up for a challenge and new projects that push me into new territories. I have a habit of setting insane goals and being a perfectionist about them which is great but stressful!
How has the pandemic affected the work you are making?
It definitely broke my flow and I’m finally feeling like it’s revving back up again along with my social life!
What is your hope for the future of your career?
Loads more big projects to land in my lap like magic!
Do you have any upcoming projects that you are particularly excited about?
I’m just completing a lovely poster illustration involving Pixar which is very exciting. I've just received some great feedback from them (which is apparently rare) so am feeling a little smug.
Do you have any advice for young creatives?
No one knows what they are doing. Especially me.

Yes I have a few places that sell my work including my Etsy. And my agent sells my 12 zodiac prints here.
